The Bell” by Stephan Said (aka Stephan Smith) is the Peace Song of the Day for November 10th. This song was created back in 2002, in response to the Iraq War. Unfortunately, it is still relevant today, on a variety of levels.

Deep Blue Sea: Peace Song for 10/28/2011

Deep Blue Sea” is the Peace Song of the Day for Friday, October 28th.

The music for “Deep Blue Sea” is traditional. I first learned this song from a Sweet Honey In The Rock tape I used to listen to over and over again. Though, you can also find a really cool version of the song, that emphasizes peace, in my favorite, campfire songbook, Rise Up Singing. Those lyrics, with explicit antiwar sentiments, are by John Bell. The video below is with The Weavers.

Between The Wars” by Billy Bragg is the Peace Song of the Day for October 25th. [Also, reposted for Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2011] This is the kind of song that prickles your conscience and makes you think.

Occupy Wall Street…Peace Song for 9/25/2011

The Peace Song of the Day, as chosen by Duke Augustus and Duchess Susanna, The Duke and Duchess of Peace, is “Occupy Wall Street (We Are The 99%)”. “Occupy Wall Street” was written by Long Island singer/songwriter Jeremy Gilchrist, who used to play music at our favorite Cafe (now a victim of the economic downturn.) You can see the lyrics to the song in text at the bottom of this post.

Rainbow Peace Song of the Day: Friday 9/16/11

Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole is the Peace song of the Day. Duchess Susanna asked me about a reggae song for today and somehow I ended up with this beautiful song.  As Pete Seeger says folk music is just music of the folk.  And this ukelele rendition is as much music of the Hawaiian folk as reggae is of the Jamaican folk.
