Why don’t you make the rules?: Peace Song for 10/8/2011

“This Town Is Wrong” by the group The Nields is the peace song of the day for Saturday, October 8th. I would like to dedicate this song to the folks at the NYC General Assembly, who are working hard in Liberty Park/Zucotti Square to create a consensus system of group decision-making. For more information about this particular group, or how you can create a similar assembly, visit them here: www.nycga.cc

The part of this song which inspired me to name it for today is the part that goes, “Why don’t you make the rules?”

-Susanna, Duchess of Peace

Excerpt:

They gave you all these big dreams, big plans, beneficial programs
A studio with mirrors for walls
Your doctors tell you work it through, smooth it out, feel your pain, let it out
They never let you learn how to crawl
They never let you make the rules
Why don’t you make the rules?…

Love men and love women: Peace Song of the Day for 10/7/2011

“Everything Possible” by Fred Small is the Peace Song of the Day for Friday, October 7th. You can find this song at Rise Up Singing on page 239.

Excerpt:

You can be anybody you want to be
You can love whomever you will
You can travel any country where your heart leads
And know I will love you still…

Don’t be rattled by names, by taunts, by games
But seek out spirits true
If you give your friends the best part of yourself
They will give the same back to you.

“The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow”, from the play Annie, is the Royal Peace Song of the Day for Monday, October 3rd. This song is full of hope and easy to sing. A moment to reflect: Peace Song for 10/2/2011

“May The Light of Love” by David Roth is the Royal Peace Song of the Day for Sunday, October 2nd. I first heard the song on WFUV the other day, and I like its spirit of hope and Thanksgiving. (In fact, it is often used in celebration of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Though, I think it works all year round!) – Duchess Susanna
