Deep Blue Sea: Peace Song for 10/28/2011
“Deep Blue Sea” is the Peace Song of the Day for Friday, October 28th.
The music for “Deep Blue Sea” is traditional. I first learned this song from a Sweet Honey In The Rock tape I used to listen to over and over again. Though, you can also find a really cool version of the song, that emphasizes peace, in my favorite, campfire songbook, Rise Up Singing. Those lyrics, with explicit antiwar sentiments, are by John Bell. The video below is with The Weavers.

“Freedom“, from the Broadway musical, “Shenandoah“, is the Peace Song of the Day for October 26th.
The Duke and Duchess of Peace would like to dedicate this song to the brave folks at Occupy Oakland. Last night, various police entities attacked the freedom of Oakland – and all of us – by using weapons against Americans exercising their right to Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly. See the bottom of this post for info about how to support and/or donate to Occupy Oakland.

“Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” is the Peace Song of the Day for 10/23/2011. This song is from the movie and musical “My Fair Lady”. That show was based on the play Pygmalian, by George Bernard Shaw, which has some interesting observations on class and privilege.
You can fine the words to “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 113.
