“Sunshine” by Jonathan Edwards (circa 1971) is the Peace Song of the Day for March 12th. During the Vietnam War, it was sung very sad. Now, Jonathan Edwards sings it more upbeat and sweet. And, the ending has always held a burst of hope…”This old world, she’s gonna turn around / Brand new bells’ll be ringing.”

Sunshine
by Jonathan Edwards
Chorus:
Sunshine go away today
I don’t feel much like dancing
Some man’s gone, he’s tried to run my life
Don’t know what he’s asking…

At Youtube, there is a short video about a Jonathan Edwards’ concert in Connecticut in 2011. The video includes a snippet of the song, reflections on the song, and his impression that protest songs may make a comeback sometime. (Wonder if this video was pre or post Occupy?)
Duchess Susanna’s list of thoughts and themes inspired by the song “Sunshine” by Jonathan Edwards:
-This song is a great mantra to carry one through the altered sleep cycles of DST (Daylight Savings Time.)
-Likewise, the thoughts of the suns comings and goings remind us that Spring Equinox is around the corner – March 20, 2012.
-This song is a great empowerment song, to help one assert one’s independence from authority figures. “Some man’s gone, he tried to run my life”
-“He says in love and war all is fair”: Great line of protest to express anti-war, anti-torture, respect for civil liberties, and many other noble concepts
-The last stanza sounds like a premonition about Occupy Wall Street: “Sunshine come on back another day / I promise you I’ll be singing”
-Re: Occupy and Spring and Hope: On May 1st, the global occupy movement is preparing for a general strike. Info at OccupyWallSt: here.
