The Peace Song of the Day for 12/29 is The Flower Carol. See a video and details at the read more.

I was inspired to think about the hope for Spring today, because of a video message from Reverend Billy Talen. Reverend Billy noted that since Winter Solstice has passed, all of us (including the occupiers) are looking forward with great hope to the arrival of Spring!

Now, back to the music…

The Flower Carol
is an English, traditional song, included in the Oxford Book of Carols. The music is to the tune of “Good King Wenceslas”. You can find the full lyrics in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 152.

It may seem premature to choose a song about Spring. Though, it has been a long winter here. And, Winter Solstice (December 21st this year) was, in fact, the midwinter mark:The days are beginning to get longer, and, we are halfway to sunshine and flowers. So, it does seem appropriate to choose a song that celebrates the transition from winter to Spring. The video we found at Youtube (see above) also includes glorious images of the passing of the seasons.
